Our Journey

The founder’s dedication to strengthening health systems is a testament to the power of a single, unwavering belief

Our Story

The Center for Public Health and Development (CPHD) was founded with a powerful belief:

Strong health systems save lives.

The journey to establish this organization was sparked by a firsthand experience in rural hospitals across Kenya, where the tragic reality, especially pregnant women and their children, dying from a lack of basic medical essentials, such as medical oxygen, was a daily occurrence. These experiences fueled a passion to transform how primary care is delivered in Eastern Africa.

The Birth of CPHD

Founded in 2008, CPHD is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening health systems through innovative, community-driven solutions. The organization was born out of the conviction that no mother should lose her life while giving life, and no child should be denied a future because of where they were born. This vision has guided CPHD’s growth and earned recognition across the region, but its greatest achievement remains the lives saved, and the dignity restored to families through access to quality healthcare.

Making the Difference

Today, CPHD continues to lead initiatives that bridge critical healthcare gaps, ensuring that no mother, child, or patient is left behind due to systemic shortcomings. Our journey is a testament to the power of innovative thinking, relentless dedication, and the belief that equitable healthcare is a right, not a privilege
